The Church has left the building

The Church is our team and it can help us keep our faith alive. But… that’s not the reason it exists… We have a mission, and that mission is to help others to know the Good News about Jesus (or to give it a big word, to ‘evangelise’!). Through our actions and our words we can help people to know that they are loved by God, and that Jesus has shown us how best to live.

In the words of Nelson Mandela… "Sometimes it falls on a generation to be great. You can be that great generation."
Jesus said if we love one another as he loved us, people would begin to know the truth about him.
Jesus said if we love one another as he loved us, people would begin to know the truth about him. There’s no point in having faith that doesn’t affect our lives, or the world around us. As followers of Jesus we are meant to be the movers and shakers, the history makers…

We all hate chores!! But by helping around home, or with younger brothers and sisters, we’re putting our faith into action, and doing what Jesus would do.
Why not get a group together to serve the local community? You could do litter picking, or offer to do people’s gardening, or do a carol service at the old people’s home….
At the heart of our faith is the belief that we are all equal in the sight of God, and that he has created us all for happiness and peace. If there are places in the world where that’s not the case, it’s up to us to make the difference. For tips in how to get involved in changing the world and fighting injustice visit Cafod HERE or Open Doors HERE.

To really share the Good News that God loves us, and has shown us that love through Jesus… there are times when action is not enough, and we have to speak out. Think about it - if God loves everyone the same, but only some of us know that – it’s pretty unfair on everyone else!! What opportunities could you have for talking about your faith?

‘I don’t go to a Catholic school, so I’m always getting asked questions about why I go to Church and why I go on retreats and stuff. Most of the time my friends are really open and they want to know about things. It doesn’t mean they all believe in Jesus after we’ve been talking, but it does mean they get to hear something about God’s love – which is a good thing!
I was with some friends who don’t go to Church and aren’t sure if they believe in God, and we got chatting about the film of the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. We got talking about how it’s an allegory for the story of Jesus, which they didn’t know – so I got to tell them the story of Jesus by linking it back to the film!
‘My RE teacher asked our class who believed in God. No-one put their hand up except me. Then he asked me to explain why, so I talked about my family being Catholic, and how my faith has become important to me. It was hard because everyone was looking at me and stuff, but I got a merit for having had the courage to say, and for having explained it well!!
