God the Holy Spirit

The Holy SPirit lives in you!
When Jesus was praying, he called God ‘Abba’ - which is Aramaic (the language Jesus spoke) for ‘Daddy’, and he encouraged his disciples to do the same. After Jesus had risen again his friends and family were praying together… suddenly fire appeared above their heads and there was a sound like a rushing wind. Through the wind God was saying ‘pay attention guys, something big is happening here!’ It was! God was filling them all with the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit performs miraculous spiritual gifts.

No matter how you feel, you are never alone. Jesus promised to send us his Spirit, and that’s what he’s done. Wherever you go, whatever you do, the Holy Spirit is with you.

Is there a miracle you would like to pray for? Tell us and we can add it to the prayer wall.
The Holy Spirit has been described as ‘the perfect gentleman’, which means he’s very polite! So although he’s all powerful, he waits for us to invite him into our lives.

If you would like to know the Holy Spirit better, this prayer could be a good place to start…

"Holy Spirit, I open my heart to you. Come and fill me with your love. Help to know your voice, and always to listen to you."

  • Drunk?
  • Holy Spirit wins hands down...
On the day of Pentecost, after they’d been filled with the Holy Spirit, the disciples were so excitable they were thought to be drunk. St Paul recommended his disciples didn’t get drunk on wine, but instead got drunk on the Holy Spirit… (read it here: Ephesians, chapter 5, verse 18).
St Paul knew that the joy that comes from being filled with the Holy Spirit outdoes anything else that might make us feel good. That’s why Paul said elsewhere that he would give EVERYTHING, if he could have Jesus…because knowing Jesus, and having his Holy Spirit, beats everything else hands down.

On the day of the wind and the fire (a day known as Pentecost), when all those gathered were filled with the Holy Spirit, they went outside to tell others and thousands more were filled with the Holy Spirit as well.

This is thought of as the beginning of the Church, which makes Pentecost the Church’s birthday!

The Holy Spirit is in fact... a person...who we can talk to, and get to know.
