Calling God ‘Father’, ‘Dad’ or ‘Daddy’, raises some interesting questions.
Are our Dads meant to be perfect, like God? Or does God makes mistakes, like our Dads? The truth is that neither of those are right…
It’s important that when we think about God our Father, he doesn’t start to take on our Dad’s qualities. For example, God is not necessarily bald, he doesn’t necessarily tell bad jokes, and if our Dad hasn’t been around much, it certainly doesn’t mean God’s not going to be there for us.
So how is God like a Father? God loves us – unconditionally. That means that no matter what we do….NO MATTER WHAT WE DO…God will still love us. God has always loved us…he does love us…and he will always love us. He wants the best for us and will look after us if we let him – in the hard times and the good.
God isn’t a man or a woman. The word ‘Dad’ is just to help us understand God’s character a bit better.
