God the Father

God the father

"When Jesus was praying, he called God ‘Abba’ - which is Aramaic (the language Jesus spoke) for ‘Daddy’, and he encouraged his disciples (his followers) to do the same!"

What do you think makes a good parent. Tell us and we can add it to the parents wall.

"God would be both Mother & Father"

"God’s love is perfect"

"We can walk with our heads held high because we’re God’s children"

"God’s love makes our fears fade away"

Take a look at what Isaiah said in the Book of Isaiah, chapter 66, verse 13.

  • 'Daddy'
  • God is not bald!
  • God loves no matter what...
  • What if God's a woman?!
Calling God ‘Father’, ‘Dad’ or ‘Daddy’, raises some interesting questions.

Are our Dads meant to be perfect, like God? Or does God makes mistakes, like our Dads? The truth is that neither of those are right…

It’s important that when we think about God our Father, he doesn’t start to take on our Dad’s qualities. For example, God is not necessarily bald, he doesn’t necessarily tell bad jokes, and if our Dad hasn’t been around much, it certainly doesn’t mean God’s not going to be there for us.
So how is God like a Father? God loves us – unconditionally. That means that no matter what we do….NO MATTER WHAT WE DO…God will still love us. God has always loved us…he does love us…and he will always love us. He wants the best for us and will look after us if we let him – in the hard times and the good.
God isn’t a man or a woman. The word ‘Dad’ is just to help us understand God’s character a bit better.

If there are times when you feel you’re not good enough as you are, or that you’re not lovable as you are, you need to try and remember that this is not true.

You make mistakes, and there will always be people you don’t get on with, but the truth is you are unique and wonderful, and you are loved by your heavenly Father.

Think about writing God a letter in return – there’s no need to show anyone, you could just keep it somewhere safe and when you’re ready throw it away, knowing that God has already read it.
