Love & self worth

Don't worry... be happy

Remember, God loves you. If you really knew how much he loved you, you wouldn’t be able to stop smiling!!

Make a written list of what you like about yourself – try adding to the list every day (no matter how small the thing you add may seem!), try reading your list out loud. You don't have to show your list to anyone, just share it with God. He loves it when you discover good things about yourself.
Make sure your friendships are good for you too. If you’re hanging round with people who make you feel rubbish try making new friends.
Find out how you can be creative… maybe try something new… a sport, a choir, or getting stuck into your art or design class... what about some maths puzzles or science experiments? It's fun to try new stuff!
If someone has hurt your feelings in some way it can seem hard to forgive them. Holding on to that hurt doesn’t affect them, it just makes life more miserable for you. Ask God to help you let it go and help you to forgive them for hurting you in the first place.
Let go of guilt. Feeling guilty is not a nice feeling! If you need to say sorry, go for it… remember, when we say sorry to God, he offers us his peace in return.

All of us are made in God’s image and likeness. Does that mean we all look like God? No, it's a way of saying that we share the same qualities as God does. I'm not sure I understand...

Well, his likeness is another way of saying to be surrounded by love and be loving to be surrounded by acceptance and be accepted to be able to take on new challenges without fear that it matters if we fail...to be made in God's likeness is that kind of stuff.

Do you know how special you are?

‘Oh My God, you have created me do some definite service. You have committed some work to me that you have not committed to another. I have my mission; I am a link in a chain, a bond of connection between persons. I will trust you… for you know what you are about.’
(Cardinal Newman’s prayer)

What could you say to encourage a friend who wasn’t feeling good about themselves?

As friends we can have a big impact – whatever we can say or do to show others that we value them could make all the difference.

It’s sometimes easier to think of the things we don’t like about ourselves than things we like. It seems easier to believe in the bad things.

Things people have said or done that have made us feel rubbish can affect how we think and feel about ourselves.

Believe it or not even the most popular and confident people are insecure about some things, and everyone has been hurt at some point.

Ask Now

If there something that’s happened in your life that made you feel rubbish, try using this prayer to help you give it to God:

"Jesus,
I want to see myself as you see me – I want to see how good I am, and how loveable I am. I want to give you those things which have stopped me feeling good about myself (take a moment to think of what they are and quietly tell Jesus about them). If I think about those things in the future, help me to know that I am good, and loved by you.
Amen."
