Staying safe online

The internet is like the world’s biggest library, that can be loads of fun as well as a great way to stay in touch with friends and family. But there are some issues that we need to take seriously so that using the internet can be safe as well as fun.
See top tips on staying safe on line (http://www.kidsmart.org.uk/yp/). (Maybe book mark these tips so that you can remind yourself of them another day). Or watch a cartoon about how to stay safe on line (http://www.bbc.co.uk/cbbc/help/safesurfing/cartoon.shtml), you can print out the smart rules for staying safe online here
On Yfaith, or any other site you’re on, you should never send in your full name, email address, home address, telephone number or any other personal information that would enable someone to contact you.
Your parents or guardians may not know as much about the internet as you. Show them the sites you use – including Yfaith – so that they can be confident it’s safe for you. If they’re not sure about internet safety, do them a favour and educate them! Suggest they look at ‘Think you know’ (http://www.thinkuknow.co.uk/parents/), or Childnet International Parent Support. (http://www.childnet-int.org/safety/parents.aspx).
